WVC&R uses state-of-the-art automated split body side loader trucks that enable the collection of two separate materials, garbage and yard waste, in a single pass. The driver operates the truck’s mechanical ‘arm’ which lifts heavy carts. A toggle switch is used to control a flap that funnels the material into the appropriate compartment of the truck. As of July 2014, WVC&R services the Cities of Campbell, Monte Sereno, Saratoga and the Town of Los Gatos with new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks. These trucks are powered by a cleaner burning alternative fuel made entirely in the U.S., providing our community with cleaner air. The trucks also have a larger collection capacity to reduce the number of trips to the landfill and recycling center. Both mileage and emissions will be reduced in comparison to the previous fleet of trucks.

The compartments of the truck are split in a 60/40 capacity. The yard waste occupies the 60% compartment and the garbage occupies the 40% compartment.
